The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast did not appreciate Bronwyn Newport throwing her husband, Todd Bradley, “under the bus” with her on-camera infidelity claim on Wednesday night’s episode.
Following the airing of the latest episode, during which Bronwyn, 39, made the tearful claim about Todd, 56, during a cast trip to Puerto Vallarta, she was called out by Heather Gay, 50, Lisa Barlow, 50, and Mary Cosby, 52, as she explained her decision to come forward with the information, alleging that she actually brought up Todd’s past behavior in an effort to defend their marriage.
“Open up about her marriage? You mean threw Todd under the bus? I mean, I did not see that coming. I did not see Bronwyn kind of betraying her marriage and betraying Todd in that way,” Heather admitted on the December 18 episode of the RHOSLC: After Show.
According to Heather, she didn’t anticipate such a reveal because Bronwyn had been perpetuating the idea of a “love affair story” between her and Todd.
“I just thought I’m glad I’m not married because if my wife was on a yacht telling a bunch of friends that my daughter caught him having an affair on an iPad over his shoulder, the whole story as it unfolded, I just kept wanting to cover her mouth and be like, ‘Don’t say this about your husband if you want to go home with him tonight,’” she recalled.
As Mary agreed, saying she “would’ve told [Bronwyn], ‘No no no,’” Lisa said she wouldn’t have shared the information about Todd if she was Bronwyn since the ladies didn’t know him.
“You’re subjecting him to judgment from a lot of people. Don’t say things you want to forget that everyone else will remember,” Lisa advised.
Meanwhile, Whitney Rose, 38, and Angie Katsanevas, 50, took up for Bronwyn, with Angie applauding the series’ newest cast member for being “vulnerable and real.”
“That was the first time that I thought, ‘You know what? This is the Bronwyn that I like.’ Because she’s not trying to act like a hard a**. She’s not being crass. She’s not jabbing people left and right,” she explained as Whitney said sharing your life is what friendship is about.
“I was very appreciative that you were actually able to let your guard down and share because those are the moments that we grow and bond,” Whitney told Bronwyn. “And no one’s marriage is perfect. Every marriage has its ups and downs.”
As for Bronwyn, she revealed that her revelation about Todd was prompted by her feeling isolated.
“I am not getting along with really anybody. My friendship with Lisa’s all but melted down. I have not made new friendships that have compensated or made up for that. And I do feel very uncomfortable,” she explained.
According to Bronwyn, she began feeling as if she was always having to defend her and Todd’s relationship.
“It’s an odd feeling to always be defending myself against these accusations that I’m a gold digger and I don’t love my husband when the reality is that I love my husband so much that I deal with really difficult things in our situation,” she stated. “And I also felt like I’ve been defending our marriage for so long that it almost comes across like I think it’s perfect, and I’m very aware that it is not perfect.”
Because so many things were being said, Bronwyn ultimately decided to “shock” the cast.
“[I wanted] to almost shock them into realizing that they have really no idea of exactly who I am. I also think I just felt so isolated that … I kind of emotionally vomited a little tiny bit,” she continued. “There’s just so much I want to correct in this one moment, and I don’t know how you guys received that because I don’t know if I explained all that very well.”
Also on the RHOSLC: After Show, after Whitney brought up the fact that Bronwyn had been labeled a gold digger, Bronwyn said that if it was money she was after, she “would have left” Todd after his infidelity.
“We don’t have a prenup … [So] that’s how that really would’ve worked if that were the case,” she noted.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season five airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
