Good riddance.
That has to be what the Philadelphia Eagles and general manager Howie Roseman have to be thinking with the latest news out of Tampa Bay.
Newly signed Buccaneers edge rusher Haason Reddick, after years of demanding a new deal with the Eagles (and New York Jets), has not shown up to the start of Buccaneers OTAs yet.
“I’m sure one of these days we’ll see him,” Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said.
To say that this is bad news for Tampa Bay would be an understatement. The organization needed veteran edge rushers this offseason and felt that Reddick would be the perfect player for that need.
They weren't wrong for thinking that.
Reddick, though, doesn't seem to want to show his worth on the football field anymore. He has not shown up to OTAs in each of the last three years - all with different teams.
Once an All-Pro, and one of the best defensive players in the league, Reddick's quest for money was shown after his first season with Philly where he tried to negotiate a long-term deal after a great year.
The Eagles, and Roseman in particular, opted instead to not negotiate with Reddick, and ship him off a year before he became a legitimate problem.
It's why the Eagles are always ahead of the curve with contract extensions. If they don't feel a player is really what they are looking for, they'll simply ship him off.
That's what they did with Reddick. And they have shown to be correct with the move ever since.
