Straight-talking Pascal's attitude towards Joan, 61 - who was a former contestant on Gerry Turner's season of The Golden Bachelor - began to have second thoughts following a traditional Tahitian bonding ceremony.
His emotion then spilled over in the Fantasy Suites episode, which saw him spend a night with Joan.
Now, after the Men Tell All episode hit screens, the 69-year-old has opened up on calling time with the first-ever Golden Bachelorette.
He told Glamour Magazine: "It was hard to see it because there is no good way to end a relationship.
"There is no word you could use to make her feel better.
"I tried to get there. I needed more time. My wall was going down, and then she took me to a ceremony and I freaked out. I felt trapped, and I got scared."
The Paris-born hunk, with a penchant for personal jets, addressed Joan's heart-wrenching comment, where she told the cameras: "I’m maybe not worthy to be loved."
He clarified to the publication: "That was not my intention.
"My intention was to tell her that I’m not where she need me to be, and I don’t think if I could get there.
"I’m sorry if I misled her or misinterpret myself, but I told her from the beginning that I was guarded and it was going to take me time to bring down my wall."
Golden Bachelorette finalist Pascal Ibgui storms off set and furiously orders cameraman to ‘go away!’
Explaining his actions - which saw him scold the camera man and saw some fans brand him high maintenance - he added: "That’s why I told the camera to get away from me.
"I was very angry. I know the words not in love is very hurtful.
"I would rather try to be very diplomatic. Unfortunately, she got hurt. I got hurt because emotionally that was very difficult for me, too."
He also admitted how location was playing on his mind - with his successful enterprise based in Chicago and Joan living in Washington DC.
Pascal told how he "wants a partner on a daily basis" - so therefore he was reluctant to "invest" his time with Joan.
Meanwhile, the ABC singleton certainly has other options.
These see Chock Chapple and Guy Ganser still vying for her affections.
Joan is from Rockland and has a Bachelor's Degree in computer science from the University of Maryland.
For her day job, Joan works in alumni relations at the Landon School in her home state and has carried out this job since 2021.
Joan shot to fame during the first-ever season of the senior dating show that starred Gerry Turner as the inaugural Golden Bachelor.
Deciding to leave during week three, Joan said on Instagram last October, "My journey to find love took a detour this week as I traded the mansion for motherhood and headed home to be with my family.
"Family comes first, period. Once a mother, always a mother, I’ll always choose my kids first.
"Thank you for all of your outpouring [of] love and support, for not only me but also my daughter - everyone is now healthy and happy!
"As for me and my journey to love… guess we will have to see where it takes me next. Until then, stay golden," she concluded.
It comes after the winner of the show was revealed in a huge spoiler.
