When we first met Gina Kirschenheiter on The Real Housewives of Orange County, she was on the brink of divorce with Matt Kirschenheiter. By the time the season aired, they had already called it quits.
Since then, we’ve seen their relationship hit some serious lows, but now, Gina says they have it “all figured out.” In a new interview with Bravo, she shared an update on where things stand with her ex, and how their relationship has grown into something “beautiful.”
Co-parenting done right
Gina shares three kids with her ex-husband Matt. Of course, she has since moved on with Travis Mullen, who has kids of his own. Meanwhile, Matt has remarried a woman named Britt Birdy. That means that Gina’s kids have plenty of parental figures in their lives, and Gina told The Daily Dish how they make it all work.
“We’re just parents. You know what I mean? Like, we’re parents to our children,” Gina explained.
She continued, “I’m a parent. Travis is a parent. Matt’s a parent. Britt’s a parent. It’s not even co-parenting, it’s just parenting. Our kids have four parents. We’re their family. They’re safe and happy with any of their four parents and that’s just our life.”
Gina admitted that their co-parenting dynamic is a “really beautiful thing” because it allows for everyone involved to have flexibility. She said she’s “thankful” that it has evolved to this point.
“Also, it makes it easier for us to be able to do the things that we need to do, like work and travel and all that stuff because you just know your kids are happy and fine,” she explained. “I just don’t understand why anybody wouldn’t want that.”
Although Gina has a beautiful relationship with her ex, Travis unfortunately can’t say the same. His ex-wife has been accused of threatening them and creating a “dangerous environment” for the families. That’s part of the reason why he and Gina wound up moving into separate places.
For everyone’s sake, our fingers are crossed that one day Travis and his ex can be more like Gina and Matt. We could all learn a lesson from those two.
The Real Housewives of Orange County continues with new episodes on Bravo, Thursday nights at 9/8c.
