From an undrafted rookie and a college QB-turned-receiver to a Pro Bowler in a brand-new position — 5 under-the-radar Raiders to watch in Seattle preseason opener - suong

On Thursday August 7, 2025 at 7 P.M. the Las Vegas Raiders are taking on the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington for their first 2025 NFL preseason game.

The game is a return to Seattle for Raiders Head Coach Pete Carroll and starting quarterback Geno Smith.

Here are five less heralded, but exciting players that Raiders fans should keep their eye on during the game.

1. Greedy Vance, Cornerback, No. 41

Greedy Vance is an undrafted free agent rookie out of USC. He may have been overlooked by scouts heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, but he has proven himself at Raiders training camp.

According to Raiders team reporter Levi Edwards, Vance has earned second-team reps in training camp. He reportedly has a great shot to make the 53 man roster to open the regular season.

Whether he makes the team will, of course, weigh heavily on his preseason performances. He will take on a solid Seahawks QB room comprised of Sam Darnold, Jalen Milroe and Drew Lock in his first NFL test.

Vance and Carroll would be a fun former Trojan duo for USC football fans to watch.

2. Cam Miller, Quarterback, No. 5

It’s not everyday that you get to draft a national championship quarterback.

Cam Miller led the North Dakota State Bison to their 10th FCS National Championship in the last 14 years last season.

North Dakota State is a storied FCS program, but Miller is one of the best players in program history. He holds the program records in career total offensive yards, completion percentage, completions, passing yards and is tied with Easton Stick for the career total touchdowns record.

He is also second all time at NDSU in passing attempts and passing touchdowns.

Miller is currently third on the Raiders QB depth chart behind Smith and Aidan O’Connell, but could certainly factor in to the Raiders’ future plans at QB.

Raiders minority owner and greatest NFL quarterback of all time Tom Brady is reportedly a huge fan of Miller’s, and advocated for the Raiders to select him in the 2025 NFL Draft. Brady is a fellow sixth round pick himself, of course.

Speaking of where Miller was drafted (6th round, 215th overall), a player conspicuously drafted just two picks before him is also someone to watch.

3. Tommy Mellott, Wide Receiver, No. 19

Tommy Mellott is one of the best stories on the Las Vegas Raiders roster.

Mellott actually matched up against Miller as the quarterback for Montana State in the FCS championship game on January 6, 2025.

Just a few months later, Mellott was selected just two picks before his rival Miller (6th round, 213th overall).

But, the Raiders picked him as a…wide receiver?!

Mellott was a standout at QB for the Bobcats just as much for his running ability as his passing ability, but watching him try his hand at receiver will still be interesting and fun to watch.

He’s currently buried deep on the Raiders unofficial depth chart at WR, but watching him play will be fun. If nothing else, at least for the prospect of Miller throwing to Mellott on the same NFL just months after they were college football rival QBs in the biggest game of their lives.

4. Jamal Adams, Linebacker and Cornerback, No. 33

Jamal Adams was definitely one of the most headline-grabbing signings for the Raiders during the 2025 offseason.

That’s partially because he is a three-time Pro Bowler and partially because he is reuniting with Pete Carroll.

But what makes his preseason debut with the Raiders fascinating is that he is also playing a new position.

Adams has reportedly made the switch to linebacker at Raiders training camp. He is listed as the Raiders’ backup weakside linebacker behind Germaine Pratt.

Adams has always been disruptive in the backfield, so seeing him taking on his new role against his old team is a fascinating preseason storyline not just for the Raiders, but around the NFL.

5. Michael Mayer, Tight End, No. 87

No one seems to be sure what the Raiders should do with Michael Mayer.

Some people think he should be traded, given the emergence of superstar tight end Brock Bowers. Some think that he should be retained and will form the greatest TE room of all time alongside Bowers.

Mayer has reportedly had a good camp with the Raiders. So, this preseason matchup will be about seeing how he rebounds from an injury plagued 2024 season. He’s still a former second round pick that Las Vegas has invested a lot in.

If he plays well, it’s good for the Raiders either way, whether they want to keep him or move him.
