Former Second-Round Pick Announces Raiders Signing on Monday - suong

The Las Vegas Raiders lost a number of key defensive free agents on Monday, including Robert Spillane, Nate Hobbs and Tre'von Moehrig. However, it wasn't all losses for the team as they made a couple of additions in the defensive secondary.

The big signing was safety Jeremy Chinn but that wasn't the only most they made in the secondary. Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz reported on Monday that the Raiders are set to sign cornerback Lonnie Johnson Jr.

He confirmed the news on X and sent a message out to Raiders fans.

The Raiders re-signed Isaiah Pola-Mao before the start of free agency so he will be the likely starter opposite Chinn. Johnson should provide depth at the position and cornerback while also playing a key role on special teams.

The veteran defensive back first joined the NFL as a second-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2019. He lasted three seasons with the team before they moved on.

After that, he bounced around the NFL having played games for the Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints. He spent last season with the Carolina Panthers where he played in 15 games but only made one start.

He's played 83 games overall in his career and will bring a lot of experience to what looks to be a young Raiders secondary.
