Early on Thursday morning several reports surfaced that the Philadelphia Flyers have fired their head coach John Tortorella, a former head coach of the New York Rangers.
However, GM Daniel Briere confirms the news as he announced that the organization have relieved John Tortorella of his duties of head coach, along with that they have confirmed that associate coach, Brad Shaw will take over as head coach immediately.
OFFICIAL: The Flyers have relieved John Tortorella of his duties as head coach. Philadelphia Flyers Associate Coach, Brad Shaw, has been named interim head coach and will assume duties immediately.
Here's what Flyers GM Daniel Briere had to say on the decision:
«Today I made the very difficult decision to move on from John as our head coach," said Briere. «John played a vital role in our rebuild. He set a standard of play and re-established what it means to be a Philadelphia Flyer. John's passion on the bench was only equaled by his charitable work in our community. As we move into the next chapter of this rebuild, I felt this was the best for our team to move forward. I'd like to thank John for his tireless work and commitment to the Flyers."

Many have expected this to happen considering the Flyers recent struggles over the last few years, just the season alone the Flyers sit in last place of the Metropolitan Division with a 28-36-9 record throughout 72 games.
Along with that, Tortorella made a very controversial statement after taking a 7-2 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs as he reveled he wasn't interested in learning how to coach that group of players:
