Former Browns Safety Blasts Replacement Signing

The Cleveland Browns recently signed Damontae Kazee to fill out their safety room.
The Cleveland Browns cut former starting free safety Juan Thornhill back in February, and now they have signed the player that will take his place.

The team announced that they were signing former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Damontae Kazee to a one-year deal on Monday. And Thornhill did not seem to like that, going as far as to take his thoughts to social media.

"Can’t wait!!! This s*** is Personal," the former Brown posted on X.

The thing that may be setting off Thornhill is the fact that the Browns and Steelers basically swapped safeties.

Kazee spent the past three seasons in Pittsburgh, but only started in now game in 2024. Thornhill spent two seasons in Cleveland and started in all 22 games that he appeared in.

But now, they have swapped

The Browns had signed Thornhill to a three-year, $21 million deal back in 2023. But he did not meet the team's expectations, and they cut him ahead of the 2025 season before they could see the third year of his contract.

As for Kazee, he only started in one game this past season for the Steelers, but he was solid in the time he was given. He was still able to rack up 31 total tackles and grab an interception in the limited snaps that he did get.

The Browns and Steelers will face off twice in the 2025 season, once in Week 6, and the other in Week 17. This will give Thornhill a chance to get back at his former team, and give Kazee a chance to prove he is the better safety.
