Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 has been stale, but I’m hopeful that the next season of the series brings in Colin Macrae in a capacity that viewers haven’t seen him in before. Colin, who appeared on several seasons of the series and left before Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, was a great addition to the Parsifal III’s crew. While Colin and Captain Glenn Shephard didn’t have any issues between them, the Chief Engineer’s choice to leave the series wasn’t about his relationships aboard the sailing yacht. According to Colin, he decided to leave to pursue other professional avenues.
Although Colin’s choice wasn’t easy, he had some baggage that he left on Parsifal III. Getting his start during Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2, Colin worked with Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher and First Officer Gary King throughout his time aboard the sailing yacht and on the series. Developing a genuine rapport with both, Colin and Daisy’s relationship went from friendly to flirty quickly, and by the time Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 began, the pair were nearing a relationship. While their time together was documented on screen, it didn’t last, and Colin left both behind on the show.
While Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 was one of the most highly-anticipated premieres of the year for Bravo, it’s been difficult for viewers to get into the current season. With Colin’s absence, there has also been the issue of Gary being edited out of the show due to his actions between the last seasons of the series. After the filming of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 had already begun, allegations of sexual misconduct against Gary were brought to light. A Below Deck franchise makeup artist who was working on promotional material came forward about her experiences with Gary.
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
As the season was already filming, Gary had been involved in the charter season and the filming prior to the allegations becoming public knowledge, which made it difficult for Below Deck Sailing Yacht to move forward. While the show didn’t want to ignore the allegations, they also didn’t want to scrap an entire season of the series because of one yachtie’s actions. Instead, they’ve come to a happy medium where Gary is featured on the show in a minimal capacity, and it appears in future seasons that he won’t be part of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht crew moving forward.
While Gary is on the current season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, he doesn’t seem like he’s going to be part of the show moving forward. A recent casting notice was put out about the next season of the series, leaving many to believe that Gary isn’t going to be on the show in future seasons. The next seasons of the series will feature a new First Officer and could feature other new crew members in different capacities, as is normal with Below Deck franchise shows. Despite Gary’s behavior being an issue, others could find themselves getting replaced as well.
With Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 6 moving forward, it’s possible that Gary could just be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to changing up the way the series works. Captain Glenn has been part of the series since the beginning and works on Parsifal III both on Below Deck and off-screen, as well. While the rest of the crew come aboard the sailing yacht in a Below Deck capacity, it’s possible that their time on the vessel could come to an end with the current season of the series, as well, leaving a few yachties left aboard.
While Colin has been a major part of Below Deck Sailing Yacht in the past, his departure from the series was a surprise to some who expected him to stick around for years to come. After Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, Colin left the series and ventured out on his own sailing expeditions, documenting his life aboard his catamaran boat on YouTube. Though Colin has been doing well after Below Deck Sailing Yacht, he should return to the series in the future, especially if the rest of the cast is being overturned for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 6.
Although Colin hasn’t been part of the series this season, he should return to Below Deck Sailing Yacht for the upcoming season. The majority of crew members working on the show would be new, and Colin could be a friendly, familiar face for a new group of yachties. While Colin could return to his role as Chief Engineer, it may benefit him to take over for Captain Glenn in a future season of the series. With his abilities aboard a sailing yacht and the overall charm Colin has as a yachtie, he’d make a great captain on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo.
