Former USC head coach Pete Carroll will soon be back on the clock. This time in helping the Las Vegas Raiders make their pick at sixth overall.
Carroll has a major decision on his hands ahead of the April 2025 NFL Draft. One mock draft believes he'll come through and deliver a "nice addition" at No. 6.
Who's that addition? Pete Prisco of CBS Sports projects Heisman Trophy finalist Ashton Jeanty from Boise State coming to Sin City.
"This is too high for a running back in my mind, but Jeanty would be a nice addition to their offense," Prisco began. "It would make sense for the Raiders, even if it's something I wouldn't do. They have to get a chain-mover."
Jeanty proved he can move defenses backward with his fierce running. He compiled 2,601 yards and scored 29 touchdowns in shattering Boise State school records. Vegas and Carroll grab a talent who earned this title from Prisco.
"Jeanty is the best of this class, but there are a lot of backs who will be good that teams can get later," Prisco wrote.
Carroll will be rolling with a power back to ignite the Raiders offense, plus hand new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly a bell cow type back. But Carroll has a past history of feeding the ball to power backs like Jeanty.
USC fans recall LenDale White blistering through defenses during the Trojans' national title runs of the early 2000s. Carroll later fed Marshawn Lynch the ball -- winning Super Bowl XLVIII together with the Seattle Seahawks.
Jeanty can additionally boost the league's worst rushing offense if brought over. He'd also team with 1,000-yard wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and incoming quarterback Geno Smith.
