Emmerdale has hinted at newcomer Rose Jackson having a secret agenda for reconnecting with daughter Dawn.
Rose had a seemingly chance reunion with her ex-husband Will Taylor at the hospital a few weeks ago, decades after walking out on her family when Dawn was young girl.
Dawn was initially resistant to getting to know her mum, but has started to lean on her for support following baby son Evan's leukaemia diagnosis.
In Wednesday's special 10,000th episode of Emmerdale, Will and Kim were discussing Rose taking on an increasingly active role at Home Farm.
While Will admitted he was impressed by Rose's rapport with the children, Kim pointed out that they still had good reason to be suspicious.
"She looked after the kids for one day and wasn't drunk," Kim sneered. "Oh yeah, it's like she's out of a fairytale."
Will suspected that Kim might be jealous of Rose stealing her thunder as "the fun one" with the grandkids, though Kim played it off like nothing could be further from the truth.
"I don't do jealousy," Kim insisted. "And she's not the fun one."
Kim's rapport with the kids was suddenly put to the test, as she was coerced into helping Isaac Dingle look for his missing teddy.
The soap then cut to an intriguing scene in the Woolpack where Rose was huddled in a corner whispering to someone on the phone.
She bragged about how she'd been making progress in getting closer to the kids, then said: "They're starting to accept me, but let's take our time on this. No point in rushing."
There will be more suspicious scenes to come when Ethan Anderson observes Rose in a secretive conversation with Ruby Fox-Miligan, though his recent health woes may prevent him from filling Dawn in.
