Eagles Trade of Jalen Hurts Backup QB Called Wild Card By Insider - suong

Jalen Hurts: Quarterback signs record-breaking five-year extension with Philadelphia Eagles; reportedly highest-paid player in NFL history | CNNWhen the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Tanner McKee in the sixth round of the 2023 draft, the Stanford product was known as an old-fashioned drop-back quarterback with a capable arm.

The only reason he fell to the sixth round was because the modern quarterback ideally needs to be mobile in the current version of the sport. Had McKee been drafted decades ago, he had all the tools to be a high-round signal-caller.

Perhaps it is that reason why the Eagles may look to ship him out in the following months. After a strong stretch of play late in the 2024 campaign, McKee's stock has never been higher. Philadelphia made him the immediate backup to Jalen Hurts following the offseason trade of Kenny Pickett.

That may be short-lived, though. And it's all because of the team's former offensive play-caller.

LouisianaSports.net's Ross Jackson floated McKee as a "wildcard" trade option for the New Orleans Saints and Kellen Moore after losing Derek Carr to retirement.

"Here’s a wildcard. The free agent market isn’t the only option. The Saints could look to the trade block as well," Jackson said. "McKee and Moore teamed up for a win last year. He has three years of playing experience, stands at 6-foot-6 and 232 pounds, very similar to Shough, and has the familiarity and relationship with Moore."

McKee appeared in just two games last season but completed over 66% of his passes with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He is an up-and-coming quarterback who could be moved for extra draft picks in the future.

With the Saints needing a quarterback, McKee may be the solution, and a trade would make a lot of sense for both sides.
