The Philadelphia Eagles are busy planning their parade route as victors of Super Bowl LIX - the second Super Bowl victory in franchise history.
Once the excitement of the confetti falling goes away, though, the focus for the Birds will be locking up many key personnel from their Super Bowl run.
At the top of their list is their head coach.
Despite a clear lack of respect from around the league, Nick Sirianni has become one the few coaches in NFL history to win a Super Bowl within his first four seasons while also winning over 70% of his games.
Only John Madden and Vince Lombardi come close to Sirianni's winning percentage.
As he enters the final year of his first deal with the Eagles, extension talks are expected to begin immediately for Philadelphia's head coach.
One NFL Insider thinks that the two sides must get the deal done as quickly as possible.
“I think what will happen is they’ll sit down to do the deal because Nick Sirianni is heading into the last year of his contract,” Adam Schefter said on the Pat McAfee show Monday. “You never want a head coach headed into the last year of his contract.”
The question surrounding Sirianni is how much money he is expected to make during this new deal. Philadelphia paid their coach one of the lowest total contracts from 2021.
That number is expected to increase significantly.
Especially after their win in Super Bowl LIX.
"If you’re Nick Sirianni, and you won a Super Bowl, and you’ve got a year left, and you’re sitting down to talk about your deal, I’m sure the Eagles want to keep that number down and Nick Sirianni is gonna want to drive that number up," Schefter explained. "I think all of us, right now, could sit down and figure out what we believe to be a fair number...
"Is it going to be $14, $15 [million]? I don’t think they’re gonna pay him like the upper echelon coaches, I don’t think so… By the way, that’s the job of his agent to argue that.”
It's not like some huge contract stand-off is coming. Philadelphia has never been cheap when it comes to hiring their coaches. The Eagles have also been very complimentary of Sirianni over the last few months as well.
"His future is going to be great," Eagles CO Jeffrey Lurie told reporters when discussing his team's head coach before the Super Bowl. "We never talk about contracts or whatever publicly in 30 years, so I'm not going to start now. But he's great."
Sirianni is now a Super Bowl winning head coach. That means a lucrative contract extension is currently on the way.
