Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts won the Super Bowl last month with a convincing 40-22 victory over the AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs.
That was not enough for him. He wanted more. He smelled blood in the water and wanted to go in for the kill.
When he was taken out of the game in the second half, he approached head coach Nick Sirianni about staying in the game and trying to score again. A video surfaced on Thursday of Hurts wanting to put the Chiefs out of commission, once and for all.
In the video Hurts can be seen asking his head coach if he’s “sure” about the decision to put in the second string.
“If I had Philly, I would have let that (expletive) ride,” Hurts said as he walked over to teammate Saquon Barkley. Barkley can be seen trying to reason with Hurts as he pointed to the scoreboard when another voice could be heard chiming in.
Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith was heard asking Hurts if he wanted to “kick them when they down, huh?”
Hurts in a sense calls out his coach, telling Smith that Sirianni has declined to keep the starters in the game.
In the end, the coach said to the QB, "Love you, man.''
And Hurts replied, "Love you, too.”
The former University of Alabama and University of Oklahoma quarterback had to be happy with the Super Bowl title. However, he wanted more.
With the way the Eagles were pounding the football and the way Hurts was throwing deep on the weaker Chiefs secondary, one could only imagine what the final score would have been had Sirianni left the starters in to go for the kill.
Instead of running up the score, Sirianni gave the backups a chance to taste the victory and have an opportunity to play in the Super Bowl.
Hurts will have to spend the offseason reminiscing of a flawless Super Bowl victory and getting ready for next season.
