Eagles Described as 'A Worse Team' After Free Agency Opens - suong

The Philadelphia Eagles have a talented young core of stars on both sides of the football. That young core was a big reason why the team was able to blow out the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

But while much of that young core will be staying with the team during the 2025 season, that doesn't mean Philadelphia was able to keep all of their elite talent.

Philadelphia lost key free agents like Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, and Darius Slay. They even lost starting guard Mekhi Becton in free agency as well to show that these losses aren't just on the defensive side of the ball.

Those losses are a big reason why Eagles beat reporter for the Philly Voice, Jimmy Kempski, could only grade the team's offseason at a mediocre "B-."

"Some of the young players in bigger roles will step up and play well, some might struggle. We'll see. But the Eagles are in a position to entrust young players with starting roles because they are so flush with star players on both sides of the ball," Kempski said. "Oh, and in the process of losing a bunch of free agents, the Eagles are projected to receive three compensatory picks in the 2026 draft, in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds."

"Are the Eagles a worse team right now than they were when they took the field in New Orleans in February? Yes, of course they are. But there is also pretty clearly a reasonable succession plan in place, which again, should be easier to navigate with so many blue chip players on the roster."

There's no denying the Eagles are a worse team than when they won the Super Bowl two months ago.

Does that mean the organization won't be able to compete for a title? Not quite. Philadelphia's core is still intact and there are still All-Pros at every level of the team.

They may not have the depth they once had, but that could easily change after the 2025 Draft as well. In short, a mediocre offseason shouldn't sink Philly.
