Eagles Boldly Admit Embarrassment Is Driving Playoff Hunger vs. Packers - suong

When the Philadelphia Eagles opened the 2024 season, they knew they had a lot of work to do to get people to forget the previous year's collapse.

For the most part this season, the team has done an exemplary job of making people forget.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (1) and offensive tackle Jordan Mailata (68) celebrate a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers during the second quarter at Lincoln Financial Field.

All that won't matter if the team can't go on another playoff run, though. As the Eagles prepare for their wild card shpowdown against the Green Bay Packers, the pressure is back on the club to show their 32-9 loss in last year's playoffs was nothing more than an aberration.

“We have a lot more to prove,” left tackle Jordan Mailata. “I think the chip on the shoulder, getting eliminated like that, was pretty embarrassing for those that were part of it. That’s carried over to this year and we want to make sure 2023 never repats itself again.

“But I think the young guys have shown that same hunger, too. They want to get better every week, and that’s come down to the coaching and the culture that we built this year. I think that’s what the difference is – the hunger and the chip on our shoulder.”

Philadelphia won 14 games for the second time in three seasons while also fielding the top defense in the league. Couple that with the best rushing attack in football, and the Eagles have plenty of reasons to be proud of their performance this year.

That doesn't mean the team is absolved from their failings in 2023, though.

The more playoff wins the Eagles team achieves this year, though, the more their collapse becomes nothing more than a fluke.

It all starts on Sunday, though.
