When the 2022 offseason was coming to a close, the Philadelphia Eagles took a flier on a former New York Giants cornerback and turned him into an All-Pro in his very first season with the team.
The organization reached the Super Bowl in that first year.
Three years later, the Eagles are hoping for similar results with another former Giants corner - Adoree Jackson. Philadelphia agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Jackson Thursday night in the hopes he'll compete for a starting spot opposite young star Quinyon Mitchell.
There are plenty of differences between Jackson and former All-Pro James Bradberry. Jackson has been a special teams ace and star cornerback for many years before focusing solely on defense. He's been one of New York's best defensive players over the years.
Bradberry, meanwhile, had a strong career before he even arrived in New York and was cut as a salary cap move following the Draft. When he arrived to Philadelphia, he was always penciled in as the team's starting corner.
That won't happen with Jackson. Philadelphia has former fourth-round rookie Kelee Ringo itching for a chance to start in his own right this season now that Darius Slay and Bradberry are off the team.
If Jackson wants a seat in the starting lineup, he'll have to earn that time in practice and under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
Even if Jackson can't beat out Ringo, though, he has still started over 80 games in his NFL career. That isn't something one can ignore and that experience can be extremely important for a very young defensive squad at this rate.
And who knows, maybe the Eagles will have a similar season in Jackson's first year like Bradberry had.
