The Philadelphia Eagles are the No. 2 seed in the NFC after notching a 14-3 record in the 2024 NFL regular season.
The Eagles claimed victory in each of their final two games to close out the 2024 season, despite the lack of Jalen Hurts as the team's starting quarterback.
Hurts suffered a concussion during the first quarter of the Eagles' Week 16 loss to the Washington Commanders. He was ruled out in Weeks 17 and 18 as he progresses through the NFL's concussion protocol.
Hurts was initially replaced by primary backup Kenny Pickett, who then suffered an injury of his own in Week 17. Pickett was ruled out with a ribs injury in Week 18, clearing the way for 2023 sixth-round pick Tanner McKee to make his first career start.
On Monday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni shared an announcement regarding Hurts' injury status. The 26-year-old quarterback is still in concussion protocol as the team prepares for its wild card round matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
If Hurts and Pickett are unable to go this weekend, McKee's second career start could take place in the postseason. The former Stanford QB sent a clear message when asked about his readiness for a potential playoff appearance.
“I’ll be ready whether I’m the one, the two, the three, the six, whatever it is,” McKee said.
McKee has been excellent in his time on the field for the Eagles, completing 66.7% of his passes for 323 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions. In his first NFL start against the Giants on Sunday, he threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns.
The Eagles hope to have Hurts under center on Sunday, but it appears McKee is up to the challenge if QB1 is unable to clear protocol.
Sunday's wild card matchup against the Packers will kickoff at 4:30 p.m. EST from Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field.
