Is Porsha Williams facing a $240,000 tax bill?
Earlier this week, a report claimed the Real Housewives of Atlanta star owed nearly a quarter of a million dollars to the IRS in unpaid taxes she accrued over a 10-year span and was allegedly in jeopardy of losing the Georgia home she shares with her fiancé, Dennis McKinley, and their new daughter, Pilar Jhena.
On April 10, the Daily Mail revealed Porsha was reportedly hit with a federal tax lien notice in late January due to a $240,624.10 tax bill. As the outlet explained, Porsha’s unpaid taxes date back to 2009 with the largest unpaid amount of $197,907.58 stemming from the year 2017.
According to the report, the government is currently threatening to take Porsha’s property as payment unless she’s able to pay them the full amount owed.
“We have made a demand for payment of this liability, but it remains unpaid. Therefore, there is a lien in favor of the United States on all property and rights to property belonging to this taxpayer for the amount of these taxes, and additional penalties, interest, and costs that may accrue,” the federal tax lien stated.
In 2015, a source spoke to Radar Online about Porsha’s past financial struggles, claiming her divorce from ex-husband Kordell Stewart left her “basically broke.”
“Porsha was basically broke when she walked away from her marriage,” the source explained. “Some of those debts her husband was responsible for, but it all came back to her. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone has financial issues. Porsha is human, and is not ashamed of her past.”
That said, the federal tax lien revealed that the majority of Porsha’s tax issues began after her divorce.
Following the report, an insider shared a statement on Porsha’s behalf, explaining that her tax bill has been “settled” and confirming there are “no outstanding debts” against her.
“Porsha employs professionals to handle her finances and was totally unaware of any issue related to money owed to the IRS,” an insider told Us Weekly. “The bill has been settled — there are no outstanding debts.”
The Real Housewives of Atlanta season 11 reunion airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on Bravo TV.
