"Despite Eagles' progress, Fletcher Cox still has to defend Nick Sirianni against a wave of criticism."-suong

Despite the Philadelphia Eagles’s efforts to avoid the mistakes of last season and secure a winning record, they started the season at 2-2 which pushed the head coach Nick Sirianni under intense scrutiny. Although their performance improved with a five-game winning streak, Sirianni remains vilified by fans.

Tension between Sirianni and the Eagles fans intensified when he screamed at those sitting behind him after the win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 6. Things escalated to such an extent that the Eagles head coach had to apologise to the fans, but his attempts went in vain as fans refused to forgive him.

Amid the widespread criticism, Philly’s legendary defensive tackle Fletcher Cox had to come in defense during his recent interview on the Up & Adams show.

Let’s look at Nick’s history, what he got– playoffs, Super Bowl, playoffs, playoffs. I mean all he does is win, right? He finds a way and you know, when a coach like that… that can rally up a team of men and do what’s he’s doing every year in and year out. Even with swapping coordinators the last two years, you know, the way things been going, they’re still finding ways to win.

Fletcher Cox said

The four-time NFL All-Pro expressed his high confidence in the Eagles by quoting Sirianni’s words from the locker room, “Teams that can run the ball in November, December when it gets cold. Those are teams that can go deep into it.”

Despite Sirianni being on the hot seat since last season, Fletcher expressed his unwavering respect for his former head coach, citing his success in Philadelphia and his ability to balance the challenges of the current season.

Nick Sirianni under fire for his questionable decision-making

However, when comes to the reason why Sirianni remains under scrutiny despite the five-game winning streak, it has hardly been about winning. The biggest problem with Sirianni’s leadership has been considered to be his decision-making. Last season, they collapsed brutally after losing six out of seven games including the playoff disaster.

Sirianni was immensely criticized for it after his decision to replace defensive coordinator Sean Desai with former New England defensive end, Matt Patricia. While his aggressive approach has benefited the team several times, it has come at a significant cost often.

Although Sirianni’s record with the Eagles is 41-19, he is widely considered to be in an unstable position in the team. Fans have faith in the team’s potential to reach the Super Bowl, but they lack confidence in him due to his aggressive and faulty decision-making.
