Craig Conover and Shep Rose are opening up about their past reservations. Since the beginning of Southern Charm, the two men have kept their positions in the cast, outlasting many colleagues.
In 2013, Shep and Craig were private socialites, chasing after shallow romances and relishing the glory days. Now, the Charleston residents are well-known stars in committed relationships.
Unfortunately, their new lives aren’t always easy. In a recent interview with The List, Craig and Shep revealed that they wanted to leave Southern Charm on multiple occasions.
Shep explained there were “about 20 times during this season, being like, ‘I can’t do this again. I cannot do this again.'” Craig agreed, and he claimed he has the same thoughts every year.
Romance and friendship, it seems, are difficult for them to handle on camera. “Everyone wants to peel back the onions and see what’s underneath,” said Shep. “Turns out that when you do that, it makes you cry because onions make you cry.”
His friend added, “Happiness, sometimes, isn’t good for business.” Craig then alluded to his relationship with Paige DeSorbo: “You’re in the cross hairs. As fun as it is to share, it’s still a vulnerable feeling to be in a relationship during ‘Southern Charm.'”
Why do they keep returning to the show?
According to Craig, it’s about the friendships. “When we get to spend the time together [it’s] great,” he said. “Filming really brings us together.”
Shep’s answer is perhaps more honest: “There’s a black SUV outside going to take me to the airport in a little while. I’m way too cheap in real life to be able to do that. It’s amazing.”
The star continued, “It’s [also] getting to meet these people, people that you might even really admire, and they, for some reason, like your show. It’s a trip. [We] get to go to LA. We get to maybe go backstage at a concert or something like that.”
Many Bravolebrities are addicted to the fame, but they’re good at hiding it. Shep’s honesty is a breath of fresh air, but it’s probably too honest for the show itself. Editors often hide this aspect of their lives in an attempt to make them look ‘normal.’
Fame, of course, is the opposite of normal. In the case of Shep and Craig, it surrounds them at every corner, greeting them with friendly faces, connections, and opportunities. The Bravo limelight is a warm bubble.
And relevance is bliss.
