When the Philadelphia Eagles hired Kellen Moore as their offensive coordinator and play-caller, the team hoped he would be a stable voice in the locker room and offense for years to come.
That's worked out. But ... In the end, Philadelphia's top play-caller may be available for just this season.
Moore's success with the Eagles this season could line him up for a head coaching job it always seemed he was destined to receive years ago when he was a backup quarterback.
The Dallas Cowboys announced they have parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy after five seasons with the team. McCarthy went 1-3 in the playoffs while also leading Dallas to three-straight 12-win seasons before the untimely 7-10 mark hit the roster this past year.
Now, Dallas is in need of a head coach who not only knows the offense, but can play nice with owner Jerry Jones when needed.
Moore is almost the perfect candidate in that regard.
Moore started his NFL journey as a backup quarterback and ended his playing career in Dallas. He quickly rose through the ranks first as the team's quarterback coach before elevating his status to offensive coordinator and play-caller.
He later bounced around to Los Angeles and now Philadelphia, but Moore has always been liked by the Jones family ... and he's got a relationship with Dak Prescott ... and it could lead him to be the favorite for the top job in Dallas.
This might be good news for Dallas. This wouldn't be good news for Philly.
The Eagles have had three different play-callers in as many seasons. To have to hire a fourth one could be catastrophic moving forward for the organization.
Especially when quarterback Jalen Hurts has openly stated how much stability helps him as a passer.
