Cowboys Fans Won’t Get Trade Wish for Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin

If you ask most fans of the Dallas Cowboys, they would give their arm and leg for the right to get Mike Tomlin as their head coach. Mike Tomlin | Record, Age, NFL, Coach, & Facts | Britannica

Same with the New York Jets. Same with the Chicago Bears.

In Dallas? It’s been 30 years since a Super Bowl visit.

In New York? After eight straight seasons without a playoff win, many of those fans hoped the Pittsburgh Steelers would look for ways to try and find a way to trade Tomlin to needy teams.

After Saturday afternoon's announcement, though, it doesn't sound like that is in the cards.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin

In a report detailed by Adam Schefter of ESPN, multiple teams spoke to Pittsburgh about a trade of the Super Bowl-winning coach only to be turned away.

"The Bears recently called the Steelers to see if they would be allowed to talk to and potentially try to trade for longtime head coach Mike Tomlin, only to have Pittsburgh rebuff their inquiry," Schefter said.

Tomlin is the longest-tenured head coach in the NFL having been hired by the team in 2007 to replace Bill Cowher. He has compiled a 183-107-2 record since and has never had a losing season in his career.

While Pittsburgh was once considered a team always chasing Super Bowls, that reality can't be felt anymore. The Steelers haven't won a playoff game in eight seasons - the longest drought since before the Steel Curtain days of the 70s.

For a team like the Jets who have begged for a chance to have even one winning season, though, Tomlin is seen as a breath of fresh air after over a decade of struggles.

But Tomlin is a breath of fresh air another team will be unable to enjoy. At least for another season.
