Cowboys Candidate Kellen Moore Turns Heads By Taking Blame - suong

You don't need to be a football savant to know that the Philadelphia Eagles' passing offense hasn't played up to their potential in recent weeks.

Since the return of Jalen Hurts from a concussion at the start of the playoffs, the Eagles aerial attack has yet to put up over 150 yards in either of their two wins.

While the wins still matter more than anything else, critics insist a mix of poor play-calls and bad execution have followed the Birds so far this postseason.

One particular play stands out.

Clinging to a 16-13 lead late in the third quarter of Sunday's showdown against the Los Angeles Rams, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts took a sack in his own end zone to give the Rams a safety.

Plenty of analysts have gone over the play that essentially kept L.A. in the game, with most of the blame going to Hurts and his penchant for holding onto the ball.

That isn't the way the coaching staff sees it, though.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, offensive coordinator and play-caller Kellen Moore spilled the beans.

"That one was on me," Moore said. "That was simply on me. Chasing a particular look that was more traditional in the open field. That's one that hey, I felt different about the situation based on how it played out."

Moore - who is not only critical to what Philly is doing now in its Super Bowl push but who is also a seeming finalist to return to the Dallas Cowboys as a head coach - is absorbing the blame for the team's struggles.

That is what any good coach does. None of this is surprising.

What is surprising, though, is the team's struggles throwing the ball with a top quarterback in Hurts and top receivers around him.

However it happens, Philadelphia, which plays Washington this week with the NFC Championship Game winner moving to the Super Bowl, will need more from their passing game - and from Kellen Moore.
