Clair's public support for her man came as he prepares for a big night that's a far cry from those spent in the ring
Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has backed her new man Ricky Hatton as he prepares for a big night that's a far cry from those spent in the ring. The boxer will be getting suited and booted as he heads to the BAFTA Television Award 2024 on Sunday (May 12).
Ricky, aka 'The Hitman', has been nominated in the category of Single Documentary for his Sky Original documentary 'Hatton'! which delves into the inspiring journey of the renowned British boxer.
Released in August, the ninety-minute film offers extraordinary access to the boxing hero, exploring his life in and outside of the ring, with honest words from ‘The Hitman’ himself, his closest friends, family and peers. With the help of previously unseen footage, it charts his journey from the Hattersley estate near Manchester to headlining on the strip in Las Vegas.
Upon discovering his nomination in March, Ricky said on X, formerly known as Twitter: "I never thought I would be saying this… I’ve been nominated for a BAFTA! ‘Hatton’ is up for best single Doc at the ceremony on May 12th. Chuffed for @noahmediagroup & @dandewsburyTV who put their heart & soul into the project. Now waiting for the call to be the next Bond!"
Now, new girlfriend Claire has shown her support ahead of the big night. Sharing a poster used for the documentary on her Instagram Story, the soap star said: "Good luck tonight darling @bafta. So proud of you @rickhitmanhatton."
Claire, 53, and Ricky, 45, were recently seen enjoying their first holiday together in Tenerife. The pair met while taking part in Dancing on Ice earlier this year and have been spotted on a series of pub dates throughout spring and their getaway comes just a couple of weeks after Claire and Ricky stepped out on the red carpet together for the first time.
But after their time in the sun together, Ricky and Claire returned to the UK where the latter headed back to the cobbles to continue her work as Cassie Plummer in Corrie while Ricky was busy putting one of the country's biggest pop stars through his paces.
With Olly Murs in Manchester, as he supports Take That on their mammoth tour, which finally got off without a hitch after the chaos of moving their string of shows from the yet unopened Co-Op Live to the AO Arena, he decided to use some of his downtime to train with Ricky at his gym in Hyde.
