New deckhand Nicolas Cattelan began sinking his own ship on night one when he broke Captain Jason Chambers’ rules about drinking on charter during Season 3 of Below Deck Down Under.
“Oh, god, I can’t believe I just did that,” Nicolas said in his confessional. “Captain Jason runs a dry boat. This could get me fired. That was so stupid.”
It happened when a guest challenged Nicolas to beer pong, telling him if she sunk the shot, he had to do a shot. Nicolas got up the courage to confess his mistake to Captain Jason on Season 3, Episode 12 — and prepared for punishment.
Nicolas told Captain Jason he mistakenly drank on charter
Nicolas weighed his options the morning after the drinking incident with the guests.
“I’ve kinda been going back and forth,” he said in his confessional. “I know that with Captain Jason, drinking on charter is an absolute no-go. There’s a reality where I just don’t bring it up. I leave it in the past. I try to do better. But it’s not the right way to go about things.”
Nicolas decided to go straight to the bridge and confess.
“Last night, on entertainment duty, girls were having a good time,” he told Jason. “But I do have to report something. One of them came over and said, ‘You have a drink?’ I guess I got very carried away and I wasn’t insistent enough, and I f—ked up and I took the shot. I just wanted to let you know.”
Jason was taken aback, and remarked, “It’s not acceptable,” as Nicolas apologized.
“Obviously, that’s an issue. First charter and all that,” Jason added.
But Nicolas insisted he regretted his behavior.
“I know. I understand the impression that makes, and I am genuinely really sorry,” he said.
Jason decided to let the rule-breaking go.
“Obviously, coming to me about that is exactly what I’d want out of someone. So, I think we can probably put this to bed,” he told Nicolas. “It sounds like you’ve learned a lesson already.”
Nicolas insisted drinking on charter would never happen again.
“That’s not a normal thing for me. I am very, very sorry,” he told the captain.
How did Captain Jason decide to punish Nicolas for drinking on charter?
Nicolas was very relieved after his talk with the captain.
“It’s a big weight off the shoulders,” he confessed.
Nicolas also decided to bring his bosun, Nate Salmon, into the fold on his mistake.
“Nic. Nic. I can see the fear in his eyes. And I don’t think he’ll be making any mistakes like that again,” Nate said jokingly in his confessional.
Jason decided to punish Nicolas in a unique way: bequeathing him the infamous disco ball helmet to wear on the night out.
“I feel absolutely invincible,” Nicolas said while wearing the helmet. “This is like Iron Man if it was made in the 70s.”
