Browns’ Jameis Winston put the ball in Cleveland’s court about his NFL future

Cleveland Browns’ 2024 season once again has been a wild ride at the most important position in football.

The Browns lost Deshaun Watson to another season-ending injury and he was not playing well before that happened. Just like last season, the Browns went to a veteran quarterback. Jameis Winston has been an uplift for the team lately and has gotten them a couple of wins.

Winston, who is on a one-year contract, was asked if he could see himself sticking around in Northeast Ohio recently.

"Of course, in terms of my family," stated Winston. When I think about my family, I think about moving my kids, my wife having to find new friends. I think anytime you're able to solidify a role in a place and play good at that place, you like to be home. But however, that's out of my control."

Winston has made four starts for the Browns this year and has 1,266 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions. The former No. 1 overall pick is the only quarterback to throw for 300 yards in a game this season for Cleveland, and he has done it twice so far with his most being 395 vs. the New Orleans Saints.

Winston’s turnovers are inevitable at times, but he has helped a very bad offense at least become capable. Jerry Jeudy and Cedric Tillman have both taken off at the wide receiver position lately. Part of that has to do with trading Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills and more opportunities being available, but part of it has to do with Winston feeding them the ball.

"I've truly embraced this city. I love the hard nose, I love the beautiful trees three months out of the year. I always talk about when I have my introductory, I talk about how I'm grateful and it's as simple as that, man. I'm grateful for the fans challenging me. I'm grateful for the fans lifting me up. I'm grateful for you all challenging me and lifting me up, man. It's a process that I really take to heart man because I feel like all of us are in this together and that's just how I approach it."

Winston’s pregame speeches and mic’d-up segments have been a hit in Cleveland, just like they have been anywhere else. Going forward the Browns should see that Watson can not be the starter. That both should sail. Keeping Winston around to be a bridge for next year should be on the table depending on how the rest of this season goes.

The 10-year NFL veteran has made it clear he wouldn’t mind staying around in Cleveland and with the Browns. Now, the Browns will have to make that decision after the season.
