Brendan Brisson, once a Vegas Golden Knights prospect, has found a home in the Rangers organization.
Brisson was considered a top prospect in a pool in Vegas that was arguably shallow, and thanks to a trade that sent Reilly Smith back to the once home of misfits in the NHL, T-Mobile Arena.
After adjusting to the AHL and Hartford, he'd find himself positioned for a call-up to the NHL. He'd play a total of 61 games between the Henderson Silver Knights and the Hartford Wolfpack, scoring 25 points (7-18).
Now, on the cusp of training camp, he has set his goal for the 2025 season: make the team out of camp.
«I want to make the team (Rangers) out of camp,» Brisson told the Hartford Wolf Pack web site. «I know I can do it, I've made an NHL roster before out of camp in Vegas, so just make it to camp and stick. I know what's going to keep me in the League. I learned a lot from last year, and I want to use everything I learned over the summer and into camp. If I do that, I think I'll be good.»
The Rangers Situation: Flexibility and Competition In The Bottom-Six
He'll have fierce competition in camp, as he can play both the center and wing. Which gives you an idea of who he'll need to beat out in training camp for a spot, two depth players with flexibility: Juuso Parssinen and Jonny Brodzinski.
In addition to the youngster and vet, there is a plethora of NHL-ready talent he'll be up against in Gabe Perreault, Brett Berard, and Brennan Othmann, so he will be an underdog heading into camp.
With the addition of Taylor Raddysh to the bottom-six, the Rangers have engendered an atmosphere that breeds competition in the team out of the gate.
For the former first-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, this shouldn't be simple, but it won't be difficult either.
His first two seasons in the NHL saw him score 18 and 19 goals consecutively, and he was a reliable contributor in the NCAA with the Michigan Wolverines.
He'll have to prove to Mike Sullivan he's ready for a jump to the NHL after dismal showings in the NHL, where he'd play just under 10 minutes TOI a night with Vegas.
