Monyetta Shaw-Carter is a survivor.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star revealed her diagnosis and explained how things progressed.
Monyetta opened up about her diagnosis and treatment in a new interview with People.
"I had a biopsy about 10 years ago and it came back benign,” explained the 45-year-old.
“Then last year in September I was doing a self-check because I felt this random sensation that I can’t really describe in my left boob,” Monyetta recounted. “It was like nothing I’ve ever felt before.
She reflected, “It was literally like my body was alerting me that something was wrong."
Monyetta said that doctors found a lump while doing a mammogram the next month. She described the moment that her doctor called her with the news as “obviously one of the hardest and scariest moments of my life."
“Everything around me stopped. My heart dropped. I was afraid. I was angry. I was just numb,” described the mother of two.
She made the decision with her medical team to treat with a lumpectomy and radiation.
