Former Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay is currently on a book tour to promote My Good Side: A Memoir, which is already a New York Times Best Seller. Now, sheâs opening up about the feedback sheâs heard, her decision to share Brock Daviesâ affair, and more in a new interview.
As fans know, Scheanaâs book was released by Grand Central Publishing on July 22. In it, she speaks candidly about her time on Vanderpump Rules as well as many aspects of her life sheâd never shared before.Â
The Vanderpump Rules alum recently interviewed with ExtraTVâs Mona Kosar Abdi to promote the book as well as her new collaboration with Shein. Naturally, details of the book took center stage during the conversation, with one of the first notable topics being how fans and people mentioned in it have reacted.Â
Regarding the reception, Scheana said, âI think itâs been good for the most part.â She continued, âI have stayed out of the comment section because I know people are just having a field day with their opinions, and thatâs great, you know, if somethingâs polarizing and people are talking. Thatâs the point.â
She went on, âBut overall, this is my fifth show on tour, and everyone Iâve met, everyone whoâs read the book, just really loves it. Can relate to so many different stories in it. It was important to me that if Iâm going to put out a memoir, Iâm gonna put it all out there.â
Scheana continued to explain, âI am a literal open book, and if I left one thing out, I just felt it would be inauthentic to who I am. So, I put it all out there, and it was just kind of one of these things where I put it all out there, and I donât look back.â
Mona then asked her about her feelings regarding Jesse Metcalfeâs positive response to his portrayal in the book. For context, she admitted that they had been at least somewhat romantically involved in the past in the memoir. She responded, âI loved seeing that.â
She continued, âSo we have back-to-back interviews. I was at Page Six one day, and he was there the next day, so it was like weâve been communicating through interviews. We havenât like actually talked, but everything I said about him was completely accurate. He was such a gentleman. I mean, dating him was like a real-life fairy tale. Like, oh my gosh, John Tucker, and now weâre in the same room.â
Scheana added that her time with Jesse was âfunâ but âshort-lived.â She also stated that she had recently turned 22 when they briefly dated. Additionally, she had no intentions of settling down at that point in her life.Â
From there, they began to discuss Brockâs affair and her decision to include it in the book. She said, âIt was something we went back and forth with. Are we going to put it in the book? Are we not? The first draft I had written, it was very vague. I didnât give a lot of details. Iâm like, âwell, this is a way to say it but not say it all.'â
She went on, âAnd he was like, âThereâs no way thatâs going in the book. Absolutely not,â and Iâm like, âWell, it might, and itâs not your decision,â but heâs like, âNo, what Iâm saying is if youâre gonna put it in the book, say it all. Donât beat around the bush. Donât have this vague description of it. Say it in more detail.â
Scheana said they had âseveral months of conversationsâ and âseveral sessions of couples therapyâ about how to include the affair in her book. After all that, she says they agreed as a family not to leave it out because it would be inauthentic for her to do so.Â
Regarding where they are today, she said, âWeâre a united front. I love my family. I have forgiven him. I trust him 99 percent. You know, weâre working through it. People make mistakes, and he made that mistake more than once, which was devastating, but I didnât feel like it should have ended our relationship.â
When asked if she still plans to have more kids, Scheana said, âSo I froze my eggs seven years ago, so now itâs his turn to fertilize those eggs. Thatâll be the next step we take.â She went on, âItâll be a slow process. Iâm not ready for another baby just yet, even if Iâm not carrying the baby and donât have the hormones and the pumping and feeding every three hours. I still want to enjoy some time with the little family that I have now.âÂ
She added, âWeâll talk in a year, maybe.â Mona then asked Scheana what she thought about the Vanderpump Rules recast. She responded, âI felt like it was time. There was really nowhere we could go. They tried for so long to figure out how they could make a season 12 with the same cast, and thatâs why it just kept getting pushed.â
Scheana continued, âLala and I, Brock and Schwartz, you know, obviously appeared as friends on The Valley because they were fully thinking after we filmed that a little bit, then we would be filming season 12.â Regarding the reboot, she explained, âit made sense and I was kind of expecting it. Iâm like âOkay, itâs September now, weâre not filming. October and November contracts are up; what are we doing? So, I think it was time. If theyâre gonna reboot it, why not at the height of the show?â
She went on to say sheâs âhappy for the new castâ and that sheâs friends with some of the girls, so sheâs âgotten some stories.â When asked if sheâs spoken to Lisa Vanderpump, she said she has not.Â
