Los Angeles, CA — “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum Brandi Glanville is opening up about a terrifying and expensive medical ordeal that left her physically and emotionally drained: a facial parasite that baffled doctors and nearly derailed her life.
In a candid new interview and a series of social media posts, the reality star revealed she spent more than $100,000 consulting 21 different doctors in a desperate attempt to identify and treat a rare facial parasite that caused severe inflammation, pain, and disfigurement.
“I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize myself,” Glanville shared. “My face was swollen, red, and burning. I knew something was seriously wrong, but no one could tell me what it was.”
The journey began earlier this year when Glanville began experiencing strange symptoms on her face, including swelling, blistering, and a burning sensation. Initially believing it was a reaction to skincare or cosmetic treatments, she sought help from dermatologists and plastic surgeons — but the condition only worsened.
After months of misdiagnoses, failed prescriptions, and worsening symptoms, Glanville was finally told she had contracted a rare facial parasite, possibly from contaminated water or an insect bite during travel.
The former RHOBH star says she not only endured physical pain but also emotional trauma from the ordeal. The condition impacted her ability to work, attend public events, and maintain her confidence. At one point, she says she felt “completely hopeless.”
“I was scared to leave the house. People thought I had botched surgery or filler gone wrong — but it wasn’t cosmetic. It was something inside me, and no one could see it.”
Glanville says the cost of consultations, lab tests, treatments, and specialist visits exceeded $100,000, much of which she paid out of pocket. Despite the financial burden, she says she was determined to find answers.
After finally receiving a proper diagnosis and undergoing a targeted treatment plan involving antiparasitic medication and facial therapy, Glanville says she's on the road to recovery. She credits a team of infectious disease specialists for finally pinpointing the issue.
Now, she’s using her platform to raise awareness about hard-to-diagnose facial conditions and the importance of being your own health advocate.
“If I can help even one person avoid what I went through, it's worth it,” she said. “Don’t ignore your gut. If something feels wrong, keep pushing for answers.”
Glanville’s fans and fellow celebrities have expressed support and admiration for her honesty and resilience. Many took to social media to praise her courage and transparency in sharing such a personal struggle.
As she continues to heal, Glanville says she’s focused on self-care, gratitude, and slowly returning to the spotlight — on her own terms.
