Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers are now ready to offer their take on culture in their debut book.
The actors, writers and hosts of the hit Las Culturistas podcast are set to release their first book, The Rules of Culture, Volume 1, The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively announce.
Described as “a manifesto on culture and a Guinness World Records Book for queer people and straight girls who ‘get it,’” Yang and Rogers’ book will feature 100 “insightful, hilarious and utterly immutable rules that govern culture in its current, fragmented state.”
“Culture is a shattered mirror on the floor. This is our attempt at gluing every shard of it back together. As we will prove in this book, culture is for you, culture is for us, culture is for everyone,” Yang and Rogers said in a statement.
The Rules of Culture, Volume 1 is Andy Cohen’s first acquisition for his eponymous imprint at the Crown Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House. It was announced in 2023 that Cohen’s Andy Cohen Books imprint would relaunch as part of Penguin Random House’s Crown Publishing Group, under the direction of Crown senior vp and publisher Gillian Blake. The imprint was first launched in 2020 as part of Macmillan’s Henry Holt imprint with published titles including The Meaning of Mariah Carey and Not All Diamonds and Rose: The Inside Story of the Real Housewives from the People Who Lived It.
“Bowen and Matt have fresh perspectives on every corner of the culture; their energy and humor will create a magnificent book,” Cohen said of the deal.
Yang and Rogers host the Las Culturistas podcast where they comically discuss pop-culture moments and the formative cultural experiences that turned them into Culturistas.
The Las Culturistas podcast, launched eight years ago from Will Ferrell’s Big Money Players network and iHeartRadio, has won a Signal Award, GLAAD Media Award and iHeartRadio Award for podcast of the year. Following the success of the podcast, Yang and Rogers have held an annual live Las Culturistas Culture Awards.
Despite first just being a running joke on their podcast, the awards show became a reality when New York’s Lincoln Center reached out with an option to use their outdoor space in Damrosch Park for the show. The ceremony typically consists of categories brainstormed by Yang and Rogers, including record of the year and the Cate Blanchett Award for Good Acting.
The ceremony took place at Lincoln Center for two years and welcomed 2,600 attendees. Last year’s ceremony moved to Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre.
Yang and Rogers are repped by Olivia Gerke at 3 Arts Entertainment. The book deal was done by Richard Abate at 3 Arts Entertainment.
The Rules of Culture, Volume 1 will release in 2026.
