Tom Brady has reportedly been in touch with former partner in crime Bill Belichick.
The Las Vegas Raiders minority owner is set to be involved in the search for Antonio Pierce's replacement as head coach.
He won six of his seven Super Bowls under Belichick with the New England Patriots.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero revealed that Brady's Raiders were one of multiple teams to enquire about the legendary coach.
Belichick stunned the football world when he took over at the University of North Carolina in December, bringing in son Steve as defensive coordinator soon after.
He has been hitting the recruiting trail but has a $10million release clause prior to June 1, per Pelissero's report.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini issued a strong response hours later.
"I’m told his sole focus is on coaching and recruiting for North Carolina, as he continues building the Tar Heels’ future. He’s recruiting today in New Jersey," she posted on X.
A pretty clear and direct report from Russini.
Belichick isn't interested in going back to the NFL.
Of course things can change, but according to Russini, he wants to be in Chapel Hill.
No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
In Belichick's introductory press conference in December, he firmly stated that he was not going to leave for another job.
“I’ve always wanted to coach in college football and it just never really worked out,” Belichick said.
“Had some good years in the NFL, so that was OK.
"I didn’t come here to leave."
Time will tell if the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach is telling the truth or not, as more and more jobs in the NFL open up, but for now, he seems content in Carolina blue.
We'll see if his old friend and quarterback can persuade him differently.
