The reality star recreated a scene from an iconic movie in order to try to get her point across
REAL Housewives fans have slammed Bethenny Frankel’s recent behavior as completely tone-deaf.
The 53-year-old reality star called out Chanel for denying her entrance to their store and claimed it was due to her appearance.
Bethenny Frankel claimed she was denied entry to a Chanel store in Chicago while wearing a T-shirt
She posted about her experience on social media and said she was let in the following day while wearing a dress
Bethenny chronicled her shopping experience on Instagram, explaining how she first tried to enter in a T-shirt and then again in a glam ensemble.
The Real Housewives of New York City alum said she was in Chicago on Tuesday afternoon and tried to go shopping at Chanel but wasn’t allowed in.
She was in casual attire of a white T-shirt as she had just come from the plane.
In a video posted to her social media, Bethenny said security at the store slightly opened the door to ask if she had an appointment and then turned her away when she revealed she didn’t.
She said she felt like she was being “treated like an interloper” and was surprised she couldn’t just walk into the store.
“I could easily call one of my salespeople and get on this list,” she wrote in the caption. “That’s besides the point. I was straight off a plane in a sweaty t-shirt and not dolled up or looking wealthy.”
“There are several ways to convey a message and this way was rudeness and elitist and exclusionary, which is also a crime,” Bethenny continued. “In business, first impressions are lasting.”
“I would never want anyone to feel lesser than, particularly from a luxury brand making billions off of people buying into the hype,” she added.
BETHENNY'S EXPERIMENT
The following day, Bethenny went on a “field trip” back to the store, dressed in high fashion, to see if she would be treated differently.
“If they let me in because of how I look, Christmas is canceled,” she teased in a video from her car ride to the store.
The video then cut to Bethenny walking down the street in her black dress and heels before making it to the store and security letting her in.
Upon entering, she immediately turned back around and left.
“No problem today,” Bethenny said to the camera.
“It’s important that I mention that the three gentlemen outside (not present yesterday) were lovely,” she added in the caption.
The 44-year-old star then posted a clip of herself with shopping bags from non-Chanel stores as she recreated the iconic scene from Pretty Woman after Julia Roberts’ character was denied entry to a luxury store.
“BIG MISTAKE… BIG. HUGE,” she captioned a photo of herself with all of the shopping bags, continuing to reference the movie scene.
Fans slammed the RHONY alum for acting tone-deaf and selfishly by posting multiple videos and photos about this experience.
FAN FURY
“Wow. You’re really going to beat this to death huh?” one annoyed follower asked.
“Make an appointment everyone else does,” a second Instagram user told her.
“I love you but in this economy being pissed you got turned away from Chanel, guess what?” A third follower said.
“We are trying to afford food,” another told her. “This is your biggest issue?”
Then another commented, "I love B but this is all a bit tone deaf."
One fan called Bethenny “entitled,” while another told the RHONY alum that her “complaints are ridiculous” and told her to look around her to see what other people are dealing with.
