Bethenny Frankel Realizes She Committed an 'Unspeakable Fashion Crime' at Her Best Friend's Wedding-quang

Everyone knows not to wear white at a wedding unless you're the bride. Well, everyone except for a young Bethenny Frankel.

The Real Housewives of New York City alum, 54, broke the number one wedding guest dress code rule three decades ago, but she only realized it recently. On Monday, June 30, she shared an old group photograph on TikTok in which she stood next to the bride. The bride wore a long white dress at the wedding — and so did Frankel.

"She doesn't know it yet but in 30yrs she will realize for the first time that wearing white to a wedding is an unspeakable fashion crime…" Frankel wrote in an onscreen text overlay.

Luckily, the bride didn't see the white dress as a betrayal to their friendship.

"Yesterday I realized for the first time I wore white to my best friend’s wedding… our friendship survived this travesty and we remain bff’s to this day," Frankel captioned her post.

In many Western cultures, guests wearing white to a wedding may be interpreted as rude or inconsiderate because it can be seen as competing with or taking attention away from the bride, who traditionally stands out wearing white to mark her special status. It is also tied with the unspoken etiquette rule of not upstaging the bride.

"Bethany [sic] I am dead. This is a long white gown 🤣🤣🤣," one TikTok user commented, with another writing, "Girl!!!!!! WHAT DID YOU DOOOOOOOO."

"How did you not know 😭," one person questioned, to which Frankel commented, "I was 25."

To be fair, Frankel wasn't the only guest to have made the mistake. In the photograph, there are three other women beside Frankel and the bride. One of them is wearing a long silvery white dress, so perhaps no one got the dress code memo.

In another comment, Frankel said the mishap was nothing she's "proud of" but she still has the dress. The long white dress with a distinctive cutout is a vintage Tom Ford-era Gucci gown from the Fall 1996 collection. Notably, Bella Hadid wore the dress at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
