Despite Below Deck Down Under season 3 not yet having a release date, there are already concerns about its potential for success. Below Deck Down Under is the third spin-off of the Below Deck franchise, following the success of Below Deck Mediterranean and Below Deck Sailing Yacht. The show debuted on Peacock in 2022 before moving to Bravo in 2023 for its second season.

The series revolves around the Australian superyacht charter season. Captain Jason Chambers worked alongside Chief Stew Aesha Scott in seasons 1 and 2, and the team was praised for its efficiency. Notably, the crew and production were also lauded for their swift action in preventing an attempted sexual assault. However, the show will likely change course in Below Deck Down Under season 3. After receiving an Emmy nomination in 2024 for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program and Outstanding Picture Editing for an Unstructured Reality Program, there are concerns the show’s success may have already peaked.

There Were Already False Rumors Below Deck Down Under Was Canceled

Doubts about the future of Below Deck Down Under began to emerge after an Instagram comment made by Captain Jason. In June, Starcasm reported Jason wrote there was “no season 3 in the pipeline.” His words were quickly taken out of context, prompting Reddit user u/OkImpression1223 to create a thread claiming the show was canceled.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

The rumors proved to be false. Starcasm clarified that season 3 had not been officially canceled. Jason’s comment was likely referring to Aesha’s choice to move to a different show within the franchise, explaining that at the time she had no filming obligations. Unfortunately, the reaction to Jason’s comment proves viewers may have already given up on Below Deck Down Under.

Aesha Scott Isn't Returning

A New Chief Stew Will Change The Crew’s Dynamic

Aesha Scott has been Below Deck Down Under’s beloved Chief Stew for the duration of its run. She first joined the franchise on Below Deck Mediterranean, but as a New Zealand native, she was eager to film closer to her home country. Aesha was a vital part of Below Deck Down Under’s success.

Without its most famous face drawing viewers in, it will be even harder for season 3 to live up to expectations.

Aesha returned to Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, making it unlikely she will appear in Below Deck Down Under season 3. Jason will struggle to find a chief stew comparable to Aesha. Without its most famous face drawing viewers in, it will be even harder for season 3 to live up to expectations.

Below Deck Down Under Has Been Off The Air For Over A Year

There’s Still No Official Return Date

Below Deck Down Under last aired in September 2023.Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 premieres in October, making Below Deck Down Under unlikely to return anytime soon. After more than a year off the air, interest in the show is waning. It will be hard to top the highs of season 2. With five shows in the Below Deck franchise, viewers find it challenging to retain their loyalty during hiatuses, especially when crew members switch shows.

Below Deck Down Under is available to stream on Peacock.

Below Deck Down Under season 2 left audiences with very high expectations. But after Aesha’s move to Below Deck Mediterranean, there is much less anticipation for its return. It would be wise for Below Deck Down Under to quit while it’s ahead rather than endure a declining third season. The franchise would have more success if it consolidated its shows, allowing audiences to focus their attention and avoid such a long wait between seasons.
