Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks has revealed his ‘surgery fears’ in a candid health admission to Sam Thompson.
Towie’s Pete competed on the BBC dancing competition last year, being taught the art of dance by professional Polish dancer Jowita Przystal.
Reaching the semi-final, Pete and Jowita were eliminated by the judges following a dance-off with Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri and Aljaz Skorjane.
On the latest episode of Peter and former I’m A Celebrity winner Sam’s Staying Relevant podcast, Pete gave an insight into his vision struggles.
After having issues with his sight as a child, having to wear an eye patch at one point, Pete bravely informed the public about his recent issues.
“I may have to go back to having an eye patch. I'm going to tell the truth here. I used to be called Pirate Pete, it's a weird nickname.
“It was my mum that first called me that when I was a kid because I had a lazy eye when I used to get tired."
He added: “So I had this eye patch to try to correct it, which it did, so that was great. The bad eye is coming back as I'm getting older, it's going for a walk."
Questioned by Sam on how he is going to address the issue from progressing, Pete said he is seeking advice from experts to get to the bottom of things.
“I have to go and see an eye specialist to see whether or not we can re-train it or whether I am going to have some kind of surgery,” he said.
Revealing that it wasn’t him who noticed his current symptoms, Pete admitted that it was his ex-girlfriend Olivia Atwood who encouraged him to get checked out.
"It was Liv that f***ing noticed it. It was Liv that mentioned it then,” he shared.
With his best friend and co-host Sam pointing out that his eye was ‘getting quite bad’, Pete joked that he’s ‘glad he doesn’t feel self-conscious about it’.
Remaining upbeat about his future, Pete said he has an appointment booked for a few weeks with a specialist.
