As the Cleveland Browns prepare to take on the Baltimore Ravens to close out a miserable 2024 season, they'll be doing so with a new starting quarterback.
Multiple reports indicate Bailey Zappe will get the nod under center, adding to the long list of Browns starting quarterbacks since 1999 when the franchise returned to the NFL.
Zappe will mark the 40th quarterback to start under center for the team since its return. He's also the fourth starter this season after Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson have started games previously this year.
Watson was lost for the year with an injury while Winston and Thompson-Robinson were both pulled for poor play.
“I’m excited to be here,” Zappe said back in October. “Got in midnight on Monday. So, going on two days here already. Excited to be a part of this organization and help any way I can.”
Zappe indicated his familiarity with the Browns' offense because of its similarities to what he ran in New England was a factor in his decision to join the Browns.
“So, being able to come here and kind of already have the knowledge of what’s going on here, you know, was something that I took into consideration,” Zappe said.
Zappe was signed from the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad in October and brings a bit of experience with him, having started 14 games. He's tossed for 2,053 yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions since being drafted by the Patriots in the 2022 NFL Draft.
