Bachelorette fans are in a bit of an uproar following the demise of Jenn Tran and Devin Strader‘s relationship. But it seems they’re not the only couple from the hit show who are putting a pause on wedding plans. Now, Charity Lawson is saying she and Dotun Olubeko are taking things a bit slower than they originally planned.
Season 20 of The Bachelorette aired in summer 2023. It ended with Charity and Dotun getting engaged and planning to walk down the aisle. Now, over a year later, they still aren’t married.
Recently, Charity sat down with US Weekly, and she discussed how they’re still going strong and why they have paused wedding plans. She said, “We’ve taken a pause on it, and I’m totally fine announcing that. I feel like people ask all the time, ‘How’s wedding planning? Or where are we at?’”
She went on to discuss how stressful planning the wedding had become. She explained, “For me, I got in this space where I just felt this constant pressure of, like, I need to check off something every month or every week. And it got to the point where I’m like, ‘I don’t wanna do that right now.’ I’m also still just easing into life and normalcy again. Obviously, we’re still getting married. We’re taking a moment, taking a beat.”
She then discussed Dotun’s involvement in planning the wedding.
“It’s the flavor and the aesthetic [that he cares about], but I’m definitely gonna have more say of the aesthetic. But the flavor, that’s the one thing he tells people. He’s like, ‘Me and Charity, we figured out the flavor of the cake.’ … I’m just glad he’s involved, and he wants to have a say. It makes it fun for me and for the both of us.”
She also gave Jenn some advice. She said she would tell Jenn, “To just prove to herself what she’s worth [and] capable of. Because if you can go through that and right after [the split], like, you could do anything. [And] I love to get revenge in my own separate way. I’d be like, ‘Look at what you’re missing!'”
Charity has also competed on Dancing With the Stars. In fact, she was partnered with Artem Chigvintsev, who was recently arrested for domestic violence. She spoke to Page Six about being shocked by this — despite some of his former co-workers having horror stories about the professional dancer.
She said, “[I was] blindsided a little bit. I wasn’t expecting it at all.” However, Charity admitted that she “obviously [doesn’t] know any details.”
She went on to say, “[I’m] giving them the space and … all the love and healing.”
While she has not been in touch with Artem since the show, she recalled him supporting her when she received backlash from DWTS fans. She said, “I think he was more shocked than anything because he was like, ‘This is going on? This is what’s being said?’”
Luckily, Charity and Dotun still plan to get married at some point in the future.
