Bachelor In Paradise returned on Monday with an all-new format. If you thought the beach looked different, it does. The show was filmed in Costa Rica instead of Mexico. The cameras were also updated, giving the footage a sleek new look. But fans hate everything about it.
Why Bachelor In Paradise Didn’t Film In Mexico
Bachelor In Paradise filmed the first nine seasons in Mexico. The first season was filmed in Tulum, Mexico, before moving to the Playa Escondida Resort in Sayulita, Mexico, for Season 2 through 9. However, Season 10 was filmed in Costa Rica.
Scott Teti, who took over as showrunner of Bachelor In Paradise, and the upcoming Bachelor season, spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the move. He said that the move was already in the works before he took over. The resort in Mexico where the show was filmed before was reportedly sold, and the new owners didn’t want to continue the contract with ABC.
There were also safety concerns about the lack of air-conditioners, especially with the older Golden contestants joining the show.

New Resort Upgrades
The Azura Beach Resort is a four-star resort in Costa Rica where Season 10 of Bachelor In Paradise filmed in June. That’s right in the middle of monsoon season, as contestants and viewers found out when Lexi Young and Justin Glaze’s date was canceled on the season premiere due to the storm.
But rain aside, the new digs offer upgraded accommodations to the contestant compared to the resort in Mexico. In Mexico, the contestants stayed in bunk beds. But in Costa Rica, they are housed in individual rooms with one roommate. The rooms have air conditioners to beat the heat as well as access to a swim-up bar.
Wells Adams revealed to Us Weekly ahead of the season premiere that the cameras were upgraded, giving the show a new look. “We have been using the same cameras to film Paradise since the dawn of time,” he joked.
Also gone is the famous “Boom Boom Room” where contestants can go to be intimate away from the cameras. The show replaced it with a “VIP Suite,” where contestants can spend alone time in the lap of luxury. “The VIP suite is a two-story private getaway with an amazing setup… It’s got a private pool on the top floor and a jacuzzi on the second floor with a full-on kitchen,” Scott Teti told Entertainment Weekly.
Fans Hate It
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” is a saying ABC clearly ignored when revamping Bachelor In Paradise. Furious fans took to social media after watching the season premiere to blast all of the changes. According to viewers, Bachelor In Paradise is now just a rip-off of Love Island.
- “WHERE IS THE PARADISE ENTRANCE SONG AND THE CHEESY BEACH CLIPS!”
- “from my fav show to Temu Love Island… why”
- “I have been a bachelor in paradise fan since the beginning and I truly really really disliked this new format they did”
- “Why did they change everything including the house in Mexico… totally different show”
- “Why are we trying to be love island? I used to love bachelor in paradise, now idk if I even want to watch this season”
One fan begged, “This was not a good update can we please get the old production back please.”
