Av’s Manson Could Miss a Significant Amount of Time

The Colorado Avalanche have been healthy in March, but as this season has gone, that didn’t last long. Josh Manson is out with an upper-body injury for an unknown amount of time.

“He’s been looked at already. He’s getting other opinions and looking at and trying to figure out what the rehab process is like. So I don’t have a timeline. Again, it’s not day-to-day,” head coach Jared Bednar said about Manson.

Bednar said the defenseman’s injury is not related to his previous UBI and will travel with the team, even though he is not expected to play. He confirmed Gabriel Landeskog will also accompany them on the road trip to Canada after he participated in his first complete practice on Monday at Family Sports.

The 33-year-old’s size and skill are difficult to replace. But he plays another role as a leader on and off the ice and a voice in the room, which will be missed.

“He’s kind of the guy that does it all, and another great leader — someone I’ve really leaned on since I’ve been here,” defenseman Ryan Lindgren said. “He plays a hard, physical game. So you lose a guy like that, it’s always tough. But you got the guys to step in and fill that role, and it’s not going to be easy, but hopefully he comes back soon.”

Erik Johnson and Keaton Middleton will rotate in Manson’s place while he gets healthy. He has missed 20 games this season due to injury. He earned 15 points in the 48 games he played and averaged 18 minutes on the ice.
