The Colorado Avalanche star Martin Necas could ask to be traded out of the organization, according to the latest report.
Martin Necas was included in the trade that sent Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes and spent the last 30 games of the regular season with the Colorado Avalanche.
The trade surprised many fans and experts across the hockey community. While some expected to see Mikko Rantanen switch teams at the trade deadline or this summer, no one expected a deal to happen when it did, especially involving Necas.
Necas delivered in Colorado, scoring 28 points with the Avs in the regular season, and five points in seven playoff games on the team's top line alongside Nathan MacKinnon.
However, in a recent paper on Sportsnet, Nick Kypreos revealed that Necas could be asking for a trade out of Colorado.
Nick Kypreos shared details on the situation in a recent paper posted on Sportsnet, saying that what Necas is asking for in his next contract could push him out of Colorado, just like it played a role in his exit from Carolina.
He added that Necas could look to explore his options after he wasn't 'overly thrilled' with the Avs:
'The key piece in the first Mikko Rantanen trade this season, Martin Necas largely delivered on what was promised - he was just shy of being a point-per-game player in the regular season and found a home on Colorado's top line. But before that trade, Necas only signed a short-term deal with Carolina when the two sides couldn't agree on his long-term value, meaning he has one season left making $6.5 million against the cap, after which he could test the waters as a UFA.
After the Avalanche moved Rantanen because of how difficult they perceived contract extension talks to be going, how much patience will they have with Necas - not a homegrown player or superstar talent - if negotiations on an extension start slowly this July? There was a sense Necas wasn't overly thrilled with his experience in Colorado and that he wants to explore other options.'
Necas has another season left on his $6,500,000 AAV contract. If he wants out and doesn't get traded, he could leave the team without bringing anything back to the organization through free agency in July 2026.
Details will follow.
