The Colorado Avalanche announced Monday they signed Logan O’Connor to a six-year, $15 million contract extension that will keep the forward with the club through the 2030-31 season.
Daily Faceoff hockey insider Frank Seravalli would later confirm that O’Connor would receive $3 million in the first year and third year of the deal, and that the entire contract is salary with no signing bonus.
The deal also carries a limited six-team no-trade clause, which changes to four teams in the 2030-31 season.
The 28-year-old forward scored 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points in 57 regular-season games with the Avalanche. O’Connor suffered a hip injury early in the season that lingered before he was forced to get surgery in March and miss the rest of the 2023-24 season.
Through six NHL seasons, O’Connor has 35 goals and 47 assists for 82 points in 263 career regular-season games. The 6-foot winger has also played 31 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring one goal and four assists for five points. He helped the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup in 2021.
Born in Missouri City, Texas, O’Connor was raised in Calgary after his father, Miles O’Connor, retired from professional hockey. Deciding to play college hockey instead of go the Canadian Hockey League route, he played two seasons with the United States Hockey League’s Sioux Falls Stampede, where he scored 19 goals and 27 assists for 46 points in 127 games.
O’Connor would go on to play three college seasons with the University of Denver Pioneers, where in his sophomore season he would help them win the 2017 NCAA National Championship. Ahead of his senior season, he was invited to attend the Avalanche’s training camp, where he earned a two-year, entry-level deal, foregoing his final year of college hockey.
