Avalanche React to Historic Cale Makar News

The Colorado Avalanche hosted the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night in the fourth game of their six-game homestand. With three straight wins already under their belt, they looked to keep the streak alive and pick up another victory.

Star defenseman Cale Makar had himself a career performance, racking up two goals and four assists in Colorado’s dominant 7-3 win over San Jose.

Makar entered the night with 296 career assists and reached a major milestone early in the third period. Just five minutes in, he fired a puck on net, and Nathan MacKinnon buried the rebound, giving Makar his 300th career assist.

Afterward, the Avalanche reacted to it on social media.

"300 apples looking sweet!" they wrote.

Makar became the third-fastest player in Avalanche/Nordiques history to reach 300 career assists, doing so in 378 games. Only Peter Forsberg (328 games) and Peter Stastny (296) did it faster.

The 6-foot-tall defenseman is in his sixth season in the NHL after being drafted by Colorado fourth overall in 2017.

Makar has already established himself as one of the best players in the league, winning the James Norris Memorial Trophy and Conn Smythe Trophy in 2022 and later being featured as the cover athlete for EA Sports NHL 24.

Through 63 games this season, he's recorded 24 goals and 50 assists, totaling 74 points.
