The Piikkio, Finland native has not played this season after recovering from an offseason shoulder surgery. His absence has been highly impactful with the compacted loss of Valeri Nichushkin (suspension), Jonathan Drouin (upper-body injury) and Gabriel Landeskog (knee). And most recently, Ross Colton with a broken foot.
The 29-year-old missed significant time last season with an upper-body injury but managed 34 points in 45 games.
Lehkonen has been skating with the team for the past couple weeks but without contact. Bednar said after morning skate on Wednesday that he would need some time with controlled contact in practice.
“Yeah, we’re aiming for Tuesday against Seattle,” Bednar said.
The team is expected to practice the next two days before traveling to Nashville to face the Predators on Saturday.
