Andy Cohen Unveils a Fresh Perspective on His Friendship with John Mayer: "It's a Good Time... - lulu

The bromance between Andy Cohen and John Mayer is still going strong.

The Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen host shared a friendship update on Saturday, April 5, posting a photo of his recent hangout with the Grammy-winning artist. The image showed the longtime besties at the West Village Mobil Mart, where they enjoyed some tasty gas-station grub.

“Epic West Village day capped off at Smacking Burger at the Mobil Station on 8th & Horatio,” Andy wrote before shouting out another NYC eatery. “DELICIOUS. Between this and Corner Bistro, it’s a good time to love burgers in the village.”

Andy reveals how he met John Mayer: "All of a sudden..."

Andy and John were introduced more than a decade ago through a mutual friend in NYC. The men spoke about their first hangout in a 2019 episode of Radio Andy, in which the host confessed it took him a while to realize who John was.

“John had really long hair and a hat,” Andy recalled. “We start shopping and, all of a sudden, I see paparazzi down the block. I turn to Ricky and I go, ‘Is this John Mayer that we’re with right now?’ I didn’t recognize that it was you because, as you know, I’m really bad with faces and this and that. And (Ricky) goes, ‘Yeah.’ I was like, ‘Oh, wow, this is John Mayer. OK.’ That’s how we met.”

Andy and John address *those* dating rumors

The duo’s “unlikely friendship” has also sparked years-long dating rumors, which Andy addressed in a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.  The father of two said he was aware of the online speculation but insisted the relationship was strictly platonic.

“Let them speculate! I honestly love John Mayer, and he loves me,” he told the outlet. “But because we’re so affectionate toward each other, people don’t know what box to put that in. They assume we’re sleeping with each other, which we are most definitely not.”

John echoed the late-night talk show host in a subsequent statement to THR, questioning why a gay man and straight man’s friendship needed to be “qualified” or explained.

“I think that to suggest that people are dubious of a friendship like mine and Andy’s is to undermine the public’s ability to accept and understand diversity in all facets of culture, be it in art or in real life,” John wrote. “I’d like to think they’re sophisticated enough to see a relationship like ours without assuming it must include a sexual component. That turns the concept of being gay into an ignorantly two-dimensional one, which I know you know it’s not. I don’t question that at all.”
