Andy Cohen got emotional while talking about his recent move from his apartment of 22 years. The Bravo host spoke out on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live and explained that the move was especially emotional because it coincided with a transitional week for his son, Ben.
Speaking on his podcast on July 6, Cohen said of the move, “It was also Ben’s last day at kindergarten, and it was just a major transition week for us.”
“And for me specifically, just leaving that place that I loved so much and saying goodbye to all of the building staff, I was so emo,” he added. “I wrote a really emo kind of tribute to them because I was just so in my… I think leaving the guys in my building was probably, I think it was harder than leaving the building itself. You know, these are just relationships that you’ve built over a period of, you know, a long time and I did, it was wild.”
The father of two noted that he spent time reflecting in the empty apartment the night before he moved out for good. “The night before I moved, it was like 10:30 or 11 at night and my apartment, my living room, and that whole area was just empty and I sat on the floor looking around my dark, empty apartment and I just, it was like I was tripping, I have to say,” Cohen said. “It just was all kind of washing over me coming alive and it was a trip. I just wanted to kind of sit there in that moment.”
Cohen also shared photos of his move-out day. The “Watch What Happens Live” host posted a series of snaps as he posed with the doormen and other staff members at the luxury building he lived in for more than two decades. In one photo, his son Ben was hugging one of the staffers.
“Today I’m full of emotion as I move out of my home of 22 years,” Cohen captioned the post. “The thing that’s got me feeling the most misty is saying goodbye to the incredible staff of this amazing building. Life in New York City is so unique, and one of the joys of it is the bond you build with the folks you’re around daily by virtue of where you live.”
Cohen noted that the staffers were there when he brought his son, Ben, and daughter, Lucy, home from the hospital when they were newborns.
“’[They] saw them as if they were their own, with winks and treats and fist bumps and hide and seek,” he wrote. “They saw me get famous, and then very sweetly protected me from anyone who showed up with questionable intentions. … We saw each other through Halloweens and Hannukahs, and gossiping about my annual Christmas party became a holiday tradition. Oh, and they kept my secrets!!!!!”
Cohen previously told fans that the apartment was his “dream home.” The 3,500-square-foot apartment is made up of several properties in a Bing & Bing building, per The New York Times.
According to 6sqft New York City, Cohen first bought a studio in the 2 Horatio Street coop in 2003, then added a two-bedroom unit to it 2010 and a two-bedroom apartment in 2014, In 2015 he added another apartment to finish off the expansive unit.
In September 2024, Cohen’s celebrity realtor, Ryan Serhant, told People magazine that the home was very unique. “It took Andy nearly two decades to make this place what it is today, by combining four homes which is what makes it so special,” Serhant said.
While he’s feeling emotional about his move, Cohen’s new digs should cheer him up. The Bravo host and his family have moved to a new $18 million penthouse apartment in the same West Village area, according to Architectural Digest.
