It’s been kind of a dream of mine to someday be behind the bar on Watch What Happens Live. Even though I’m pretty much nobody, it would be exciting just to be there.
So to call in and talk to Andy Cohen would be a huge thrill. I like Andy. I read The Daddy Diaries, and I admire him as a dad.
So on January 14 when Marjorie from Long Island called in to ask Real Housewives of New York star Erin Lichy a question, it almost seemed like she didn’t want to talk to Andy. What’s up with that?
Marjorie was only interested in talking to Erin
Virtual viewer Marjorie was intent on talking to Erin. She had no time to chat, though Andy did his best to engage her.
“Marjorie, what’s going on? How you doing, Marjorie?” Andy asked. She just chuckled and didn’t answer.
I can already tell you’re my kind of person, Marjorie,” Andy said.
“Okay,” she responded, before trying to ask her question.
“You know what, Marjorie?” the dad of two continued. “I feel like you’re kind of a piece of work. Am I right?”
When Marjorie just laughed, Andy began to feel a little ignored. “I kind of feel like you don’t want to hear my banter,” he said.
“No, I’ve [just] been waiting a while to ask my question,” she responded. Marjorie’s been on hold for a while, and she’s anxious for her moment. Keep it movin’, Andy!
At last, Andy gave her the go-ahead: “All right, Marjorie! Give it to me. What’s your question?” As long as it’s not about whether The Real Housewives of New Jersey is returning.
“Okay,” she began. “Erin, what was your husband’s response to you sharing that picture of his man parts?” Even though Andy has scaled back from personal questions, I guess it doesn’t apply to callers.
“That’s what was so urgent, Marjorie?” Andy laughed.
Marjorie abruptly switched gears, “Andy, I want to come see you in person.” Oh, now she wants to talk to him. He told her, “Talk to whoever coordinated this, and we’ll get you in the audience.”
“Okay,” Marjorie kind of glumly replied. This didn’t sit well with Andy who commented, “You don’t even seem so happy that I said yes!”
When Marjorie assured him she was happy, Andy joked, “You’re giving me nothing, Marjorie!”
Not Andy’s first time being rebuffed by an eager fan
Sadly, this isn’t the first time CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live host has been snubbed by a fan. In September 2024, Andy was so excited to see virtual fan Debbie from California (I swear, it wasn’t me!).
“Oh, Debbie!” the host said, almost giddy. “Look at you! Debbie with the hair! Great to see you … I haven’t seen you in so long!”
When she explained that she’d been in Antarctica, Andy shrugged, “Of course, you were! … Love you, Debbie!”
After his effusive welcome, my namesake offered a quick thank you, before moving on to more important things. Namely, her question for WWHL guest Dan Bucatinsky.
“Oh, she kind of wants to move on,” Andy sighed, before adding, “Debbie, are you kind of over me at this point?”
“I want to get on to Dan,” Debbie said, verbally stabbing Andy in the heart. Does this count as one of the times Andy was stunned on WWHL?
“Wow. This is how it feels to lose a fan,” Andy said sadly.
Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen airs Sunday-Thursday at 10/9c on Bravo.
