Ally Lewber Says Her Past 2 Boyfriends Had “Alcohol Issues,” Shares Surprising Reason Her Therapist Told Her She’s “Attracting the Same Partner,” Plus the Last Time She Drank

Last winter, a report surfaced that James was arrested on the suspicion of an incident involving misdemeanor domestic violence. Eventually, prosecutors chose not to charge the Vanderpump Rules star. Ally later shared that she wasn’t physically hurt, but she said that James, who has been open about his struggles with alcohol, was drinking when they had the argument.

“I have to tell you what my therapist just told me,” said Ally on the April 3 episode of the Starstruck with Ally Lewber podcast, via @vanderpodrecaps on Instagram. “So my past two serious boyfriends have had alcohol issues … I’m going through a breakup right now, and I’m sitting with myself [thinking], ‘Why am I attracting the same partner?’ And I was talking to my therapist.”

“My dad, by the way, died when I was 11 from alcohol-related things,” she went on. “And I would never have connected this, but [my therapist] was like, ‘You’re trying to save your dad.'”

Ally said this revelation “did something to me.”

“I was like, ‘Holy sh*t,'” she said. “I haven’t drank since the breakup because I was like, ‘I need to … process things in a healthy way,’ [and] that’s my projection or something, I don’t know. But it’s wild.”

In more Ally Lewber news, she also recently showed fans inside her new apartment as she shared a video of her new place on her Instagram page with the caption: “New space, new energy ✨.”

Last month, Ally gave an update after her breakup with James.

“I just want to say first, thank you all so much for all of your support and love that you guys have shown me over the past few months,” she told PEOPLE. “I’m sure many of you know, James and I have broken up, and it was difficult, very public. I recognize now that that was a toxic relationship, and I’m grateful for being on the other side of it.”

“I’m grateful for my friends, for my mom, but yeah, I just want you guys to know that I’m good,” she added. “I’m great. I have a new place and I’ve been enjoying decorating it.”
