Adam Fox subject to major controversy as the New York Rangers look to name their next captain

With Jacob Trouba no longer around to hold the position, someone will have to take the reins of the Captaincy. Though it appears for GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers, a decision could be more than they bargained for, given Fox's struggles recently.Adam Fox

At the start of the 2024-2025 NHL season, GM Chris Drury ended the Jacob Trouba stalemate. He'd trade him to the Anaheim Ducks, and leave the Rangers without a Captain.
Afterward, the morale in the locker room dwindled, and needless to say, other leaders would have to step up. One of those leaders who could take over the role that Trouba held for so long could be defenseman Adam Fox.
But with the lack of success he's had this year, fans might begrudge a decision like that. He's taken criticism all year for his lack of consistency, and that's something we've heard about many Rangers players.

But Mike Sullivan, considers Fox one of the best defenseman in the NHL, and eagerly wants to work with him.
Does that make him a prime candidate for the Captain's spot? I'm not sure if it's very compelling at the moment. Maybe JT Miller would be more reasonable?
There are compelling reasons for the Rangers to name Adam Fox the team captain but leadership is not one of them nor is his recent - lack of - quality on ice play.

While his dedication to the Rangers as a team isn't in question, it's his poor performance this year that drives doubts.
We likely won't see Chris Kreider, or Mika Zibanejad get the "C", nor Artemi Panarin.
So it leaves maybe three candidates or so at the moment, another could be Vinnie Trocheck in addition to JT Miller, and Adam Fox.
